Denys Arcand is again representing Canada in the run-up to the Oscars, following submission of his latest, Days of Darkness, for consideration as best foreign-language film.

The movie, the conclusion of the trilogy started with 1986's The Decline of the American Empire, takes its place among the 95 titles seeking a nod from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which will name five nominees on Jan. 22.

Arcand has a history of Oscar nods. Decline was nominated for the same prize, as was his 1989 film Jesus of Montreal and The Barbarian Invasions, which won in 2004. Deepa Mehta's Water was up for the foreign-language Oscar this year, but lost to The Lives of Others.

Representatives of 25 organizations, including the CFTPA, the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, the National Film Board and ACTRA, picked Days from a pool of 10 Canadian films, according to Telefilm Canada.
