Cuppa Coffee does titles for eXistenZ
by: Apr 19, 1999 Print

Toronto's Cuppa Coffee has made its entrance into the film titles market with a three-minute "moving collage" opening sequence for David Cronenberg's eXistenZ.

The mandate from the film's director was to create an organic, somewhat abstract sequence. The Cuppa team of director Rob Pilichowski, Margaret Lee and executive producer Adam Shaheen addressed the project by creating large textural collages that provided a context for the film without revealing too much about its content.

Pilichowski, fresh off a broadcast design job for HBO Family, worked with Lee to create an array of images and textures, assembling thousands of photographs and other visual references, which were animated and layered in Adobe After Effects.

John Coldrick at Toronto's Axyz composited the final sequence on Inferno. Cuppa producer was Marlene Schmidt.
