by: Apr 2, 2001 Print

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has nominated a small but significant number of Canadian programs and talent for the 28th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, to be broadcast from Radio City Music Hall on May 18.

Well positioned in the children's categories, Cinar Corp.'s multi-Emmy winner Arthur is up for best children's animated program, as well as outstanding achievement in sound mixing - special class for re-recording mixer Stephane Bergeron.

Cinar's Zoboomafoo is nominated for outstanding direction in a children's series (Jacques Laberge and Pierre Roy), as well as for single-camera editing (Jules Collette and Melanie MacDonald).

For the second year in a row, Decode Entertainment's Angela Anaconda is nominated for outstanding special-class animated program.

Creative director Jeff August and senior editor Glenn Sakatch of Calgary's White Iron Digital are nominated for two Emmy Awards in the sports editing category for their collaboration on The Heisman Trophy and the X-Games for ESPN.

The Emmy broadcast will be hosted this year by Kathy Lee Gifford.

The creative craft awards will be presented off-camera on May 12. *
